Pinoy bands and Red Horse Pambansang Muziklaban: Keeping Philippine Rock alive and kicking strong
February 2016

All roads led to the Ynares Gymnasium in Pasig City last February 13 as Red Horse Beer’s Pambansang Muziklaban bannered its 17th year of launching rock bands, playing great music, and generally supporting the local music industry to keep Pinoy rock alive and kicking.

The Red Horse Beer-powered annual event culminated with the ultimate clash of best amateur rock bands from various parts of the country. The highly-amped musical phenomenon highlights amateur bands’ talent and ability to come up with original compositions that are unique, catchy, and groundbreaking.

This year’s Rakollision Judging Night finalists, who were each mentored by Red Horse Brand evangelists Mayonnaise, Razorback, Wilabaliw, Greyhoundz, and Slapshock, include May Band from Metro Manila; Orb Of Blood from Cabuyao, Laguna for South Luzon Area; Insekto Pares of Urdaneta, Pangasinan for Central North Luzon Area; Stellarskin of Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu for Visayas; and Odds & Evens of Davao City for Mindanao.

After a night of non-stop rock and roll, Insekto Pares was declared 2016 Red Horse Beer’s Pambansang Muziklaban Grand Champion. The band won a cash prize of Php500,000 tax free; a Band Start-up Support worth Php300,000; a music video album production through Viva Entertainment; RHB endorsement contract with guaranteed gigs worth Php200,000; Php50,000 worth of cash, apparel and accessories from Dickies; opportunity to perform during the Pambansang Muziklaban – Pulp Summer Slam XV; and Php25,000 worth of footwear from Macbeth.

Perming bands during the Judging Night include Philippine rock legend Pepe Smith, Kjwan, Ely Buendia and the Octaves, Mayonnaise, Razorback, Wilabaliw, Greyhoundz, Slapshock, and 2014 Champion Nobela from Cagayan de Oro City. Mayonnaise was 2004’s Red Horse Beer’s Pambansang Muziklaban grand winner.
