September 2012

September 26, 2012, Concepcion, Tarlac -- With a string of natural calamities facing the nation recently which caused destruction to properties and disrupted our productivity, our students are usually the ones who are most affected, says celebrity Filipino-American apl.de.ap. (Allan Pineda Lindo, Jr.) of the Grammy award-winning supergroup Black Eyed Peas.

"I feel sorry especially for our elementary students in public schools who often miss their classes during the typhoon season. I hope that instead of getting discouraged to go to school, they take these unfortunate events as a challenge for them to study harder," says apl.de.ap, who apart from producing inspiring music about the Philippines, is known for his advocacy for education.

"If poverty is not a hindrance to one's dream of success, then, even the strongest of typhoons should not stop us from learning," he told the students and teachers of the Sto. Cristo Elementary School in Concepcion, Tarlac who he personally visited today to check on the newly built classrooms that he donated in partnership with San Miguel Pale Pilsen through the San Miguel Foundation and Aklat, Gabay, Aruga tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa (AGAPP) Foundation.

Together with AGAPP founders and officials of San Miguel Brewery Inc. and San Miguel Foundation, apl formally turns over today his donation of two new classroms to Sto.Cristo Elementary School in Concepcion, Tarlac one of the five school recipients of the ongoing school build program of the apl with the iconic beer brand San Miguel Pale Pilsen.

Prior to the Sto Cristo event, the apl Foundation and said program partners also turned over another two classrooms for the benefit of Apl's alma mater, the Sapang Bato Elementary School in Angeles City.

Yesterday, apl made a stop in Iponan Elementary School in Cagayan de Oro to oversee the new classrooms that were opened under the same school build program. The classrooms were turned over to Iponan Elementary School last August. On the same month, two more classrooms were donated to Pugaan Elementary School in Iligan.

apl.de.ap is regularly in touch with the San Miguel Pale Pilsen team about the progress of the elementary schools that his foundation is building with said program partners.

This year, apl is expecting the completion of two more classrooms for the benefit of the students of Bayawan, Negros Oriental.

On top of the construction of new classrooms, the school build program also includes learning materials for the students and training for school teachers.

"I know that there is a lot to improve on our educational system but I remain hopeful that if we continue to work together with various sectors in making education accessible to the less fortunate, then we are always a step closer to our our dream of alleviating poverty through education," he explained.

He also encourages the students to value their education: "Be excited to go to school everyday. Believe me, learning is fun. Make friends. Go ahead, open that book and if you don't have one, go to the library. Be resourceful and never stop learning!"

Apl is particulary grateful for his San Miguel Pale Pilsen family for sharing his advocacy in helping the needy.

"I am happy that the brand that I am endorsing is not just something that I believe in. San Miguel Pale Pilsen and I share a lot of things in common – our pride for the Philippines, our passion for excellence, and our malasakit for our kababayan," he added.

This is why he proudly promotes San Miguel Pale Pilsen among his friends in Los Angeles. He attests that he has experienced a lot of beers in his tours worldwide but nothing beats the taste of San Miguel Pale Pilsen, which he describes as "may sarap na hindi nagbabago."

"I like its full flavor. Another great thing about San Miguel Pale Pilsen is that it has always been consistent in its taste. Kung ano ang pagkakilala ko sa San Miguel Pale Pilsen dati, ganoon pa rin ito ngayon. That's why the brand is iconic, hindi nagbabago ang world-class taste nito kahit sa paglipas ng mahabang panahon," he said.

On Sept 28, apl.de.ap. will perform at the grand welcome party of this year's San Miguel Oktoberfest Beer Festival at the Aseana City in Macapagal Blvd., Paranaque City.
