THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE IN BEER DRINKING IS ON

If you and your friends could finish five bottles of beer in less than a minute, then, you're on your way to spending P500,000 in more ways than one!

The search is on for the fastest beer drinking group as San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) once again rolls out the stage for San Miguel Beer National Beer Drinking Contest, the biggest and the most prestigious beer drinking event in the country.

Recently, the SMB sales team headed by its national sales manager Debbie D. Namalata has formally signalled the start of the half-a-million-peso race and challenged this year's contenders to beat last year's record of 47.9 seconds set by the five-man team from Bacolod City.

"On the 10th year of the San Miguel Beer National Beer Drinking contest, the company enlivens its tradition of contributing to the enjoyment of life-- which includes extending financial rewards to San Miguel Beer patrons -- thru this activity designed for group of friends whom we fondly describe as " laking San Miguel Beer, " says Namalata.

This year, the top three teams will bring home tax-free cash prizes of P500,000, P200,000 and P100,000. Cash prizes and SMB premium items will also be given to the non-winning teams.

Apart from the hefty amount, participants to the annual competition compete for the pride of the regions they represent. As early as now, event followers are bracing themselves for the next team to be crowned.

For two consecutive years, the Visayas region has been holding the championship title.

"I believe that the SMB National Beer Drinking Contest is more than just a beer drinking competition. It is an activity where the attributes of strategic thinking, tactical moves, sportsmanship and most importantly, teamwork, are at play," explains Namalata.

Namalata also announces that the event is now extended to more SMB patrons nationwide, hoping to surpass last year's figures of 60,000 participating teams or 300,000 beer drinkers.

"As we celebrate a decade of the SMB National Beer Drinking Contest (NBDC), we also give toast to the Filipino people -- men and women -- who enjoy our very own beer and beer lovers from other countries who share our pride that San Miguel Beer is truly-world class," she adds.

Hence, SMB has added three pocket contests to raise the fun ante. The floor will now be open to the all-female group, the all-foreigners group and the "multi-brands group" in this year's tryouts.

Ongoing until September 30, tryouts are now conducted in various bars and restaurants as well as in SMB's special events and street parties nationwide. The fastest teams will advance to the Area Finals and to the National Grand Finals which will be held in October.
